An optical method based on time-resolved fluorometry is described and applied to study the dynamics of the interaction of the sub-toxic concentrations of the drugs 4′-N-[trimethylsilyl]-4-aminoflupenthixol and vinorelbine with DNA. The fluorescence kinetics of the drug-DNA complex indicates that both drugs bind in the minor groove of DNA, with a remarkably slower dissociation rate than previously observed with the same ligands.Effects of gravity on object recognition in rats.
The ability of rats to recognize familiar objects in terrestrial environments was investigated using a T-maze variant. Rats performed at least as well as previous reports using a radial arm maze, indicating that T-maze performance is as sensitive as radial maze performance for detecting hippocampal-dependent recognition memory. Latency to enter the novel arm decreased with repeated training in the T-maze. However, when novel objects (to be recognized) were presented in the more distal arms of the maze, rats entered the novel arm less frequently and slower than in the familiar object condition. Thus, familiar object recognition memory in the T-maze was also impaired by distal arm placement. The effects of altered gravity on object recognition
